Frets on Fire is a guitar simulator. The
idea is simple, you will play the guitar. You can use as
a guitar your keyboard or then different guitars what you
connect to your pc, like Guitar Hero -
guitar, connected with a PS2/USB-adapter.
The default settings is, that you use the keys from F1 to
F5 to play the guitar and then the enter
key to make the program to use the sound what you press by
F1-F5.
Different high scores to many songs can be found on the
frets on fire homepage, but you cant usually
find the songs from there what you or you friend have done.
Making songs to Frets on fire is easy, but
if you want to make a good song with the frets on places it
can take time and possible you can need
another program to create it.
Frets on Fire doesn't need much time, so you can play it
just if you have only 5 minutes before you
have to go, but you can also spend menu hours with it and
try to do new high scores or just having fun.
In the start is the most difficult time, because some of
the songs can be hard to people who plays for the
first time. But with practise you can notice that you can
play songs that you thought in the start that you
could newer play. When you can play this game you can make
your friends to wonder, how is that possible,
when they try to play a song where you get five stars. But
without practise you can’t be good. It won’t take
much time that you can already play harder songs. Only few
hours practising and you can play songs and
when you play the songs you will start to enjoy the game so
much as I do now.
Playing Frets on Fire
You can make the game
look like this
from the settings and mod settings
How to play?
The frets on fire is a simple game. The game includes a
tutorial, what will explain you, how to play but the idea
is very simple. When you start to play, take the guitar,
like in the picture here. Then put your fingers to the
buttons. As default these buttons are F1-F5. When the game
starts you will see little "bolls" on the screen.
The idea is to hold the key what belongs to the frets and
press enter when the "boll" is at the button, what you
see in the bottom of your screen. If the "boll"
is alone you just press the F key and when it’s in right place you
press the enter key and then release both keys. But if
there comes a colourful line after the "boll" you need to
keep holding the key down after you hit the
"boll" and pressed enter. You can release enter but not the
key, what belongs to that frets. If you miss the frets, you
will lose your multiplier and you don’t get the point. When
you hit a "boll" and everything goes right, you
will get points, but also a multiplier point. When you hit10
frets in a row, you will get multiplier 2. Now you get 2x
points from every frets. If you mess up and miss a frets,
the multiplier will go back to 1. There is multiplier up to
4x, when you get 4x points per one frets, what you normally
with multiplier 1x would get.
It might
be that you can see points
...when you play much,
they looks like this
like this in the start, but...
How to add songs?
Adding songs to Frets on Fire is easy. The hardest part
in adding the song, is finding the song from internet.
The game includes only few songs when you download it so if
you want to start to play this game for real
you will need to download new songs to it.
Adding the songs, as I told you, starts by finding the
song. You can try to find songs by google or then you can
see the links above this article, if you could find your
songs from there. All songs can’t be found from the internet
because there are so many songs and making a song takes
time, so you can find only the most popular songs or
songs, what people like that are good. If you can’t find
the song what you would want to play, you will need to
create it by you self. After you have found the song go to
the Frets on Fire folder. From there go to the data folder
and there go to the songs folder. Copy or move the song
folder what you downloaded to this folder and then just
run the game. If the song that you downloaded, have been
made right, you can find it from the song list in the game.
And for those who doesn’t want to read so much I put the
guide here as a smaller format:
1. Download the song
2. Unzip the song if needed
3. Go to frets on
fire/data/songs folder
4. Copy or move the song to
this "songs" folder
5. Run frets on fire, the
song should be there if you followed the steps and the song is made
correct.
The song lsit looks like this.
How to create a song?
To create a song you can use
the song creating program (song editor), what comes with the game. The program
can be found when you start the game. To create a own song
you need to have a song ready. That frets on fire would
recognise song, it will need to be in .OGG format. To change
the song what you have to .OGG format you can use
audacity. When you have converted the song to .ogg you go
to the song creating program in frets on fire. The program
asks you, do you want to import a new song or edit the
songs that already exist. If you want to create a now song, you
press "import a new song" after this the program
will ask you to make a name to your song (this can be changed later).
Write the name and press enter. Now the program asks you
the song. You can select the data folder or parent folder.
if you have putted the song that you converted to the .ogg
format with audacity to the frets on fire/data folder, select data
folder, find the .ogg song what you created and press
enter. Otherwise select the parent folder and find the song. After this
the program will ask you the background track. Select here
the same .ogg song as before. Then press enter
Now you will start to make the frets to the song. When
you press the space key the song will start to play. When you
think that this would be a good place to a frets just do as
in the game. Press the frets that belongs to the line and then
press enter. When you release the keys you got a frets. If
the song is hard it can be hard to create a song with all
frets in place. If you want, you can move with the
arrow keys and then press delete if you want to delete a frets. After
all frets are in place press esc and save the song. Now you
can configure the thing to the song. Most important is to
the beast per minutes. This effects on the speed how fast
the frets comes. You can also do the other setting. In the end
just press save song button and then exit the editor. Now
you got a song.
